Meetings and Events
NCAS, via its Centres, Institutes and Affiliated Universities, organises and contributes to a wide range of meetings and events concerned with atmospheric science, throughout the UK.
By holding regular meetings and events, NCAS engages on a regular basis with its key stakeholders: the academic community; operational agencies, namely the Met Office and the Environment Agency; and various Government departments; the Research Councils; the general public; the media; and commercial organisations.
UAVs in Atmospheric Observations & Measurement Meeting
Drones are becoming ever more useful as measurement tools in atmospheric science. The explosion in sensor technology and microcontrollers means development of measurement systems no longer needs extensive electronics expertise. There has been a headlong rush to be the first to utilise drone platforms for a wide range of atmospheric measurements but this rush has, to the most part, been at the expense of measurement best practices and the quality of the science being done. How we make meaningful atmospheric measurements on a drone platform requires the same rigour as on a research aircraft.
This meeting, hosted by NCAS, will provide an opportunity for the community to 1) share experience and expertise and 2) determine if there is a need for a working group to focus on UAV best practice for atmospheric observations and measurement.
Location: NCAS-Leeds, Fairbairn House, 71-75 Clarendon Road, Leeds, LS2 9PH
Time: Thursday 1st August 2019, 10:00 - 16:00
Registration: The maximum number of people for this event is 50 and preregistration is required. To register for this event please complete and submit the application form. Registration closes at 17:00 hr on Friday 28th June 2019
Seventh Annual Composition-Climate Interaction meeting
The Seventh Annual Composition-Climate Interaction meeting will take place on 20-21 March 2019 at the Met Office, Exeter, EX1 3PB.
The meeting aims to bring together UK scientists from universities, research centres and the Met Office working on all aspects of atmospheric composition and the interaction with climate and the Earth system, including atmospheric chemistry, aerosols and land surface interactions. The event will provide an opportunity to present and discuss the latest UK research on all aspects of atmospheric composition. Invited and open presentations will cover new science with the UKCA model, other chemistry-climate models, and other components of Earth system models. A poster session will allow further presentation and discussion of a wide range of research in this area.
ACSIS Summer Science Meeting 2019
The North Atlantic Climate System Integrated Study (ACSIS) annual science meeting 2019 is hosted by the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) and is organised by the meetings committee, enabled by the BAS science support office. The meeting will commence on 17th July 2019, with a coffee/tea reception at 10:30am at BAS.
Atmospheric Science Conference 2019
The National Centre for Atmospheric Science and the Royal Meteorological Society are jointly hosting the 2-day UK Atmospheric Science Conference in Birmingham on 2-3 July 2019. The call for abstracts is now open!
The meeting will provide a unique opportunity to bring together atmospheric scientists with interests in weather, climate and atmospheric chemistry to present latest research findings.
