NCAS Atmospheric Measurement Summer School
May 14-25 2018, Arran Outdoor Centre, Scotland.
The 13th Atmospheric Measurement Summer School will take place at the Arran Outdoor Centre in Lamlash from Monday 14th to Friday 25th May 2018. This practical course is designed for PhD and early career scientists who want to gain confidence, experience and in-depth knowledge about atmospheric science fieldwork.
You will spend twelve days taking part in hands-on learning activities and lectures, and leading scientists from across the UK will provide mentorship and teach you about different techniques and equipment.
Our comprehensive programme will challenge you to:
- use synoptic charts and other data to give daily weather forecasts
- profile the atmosphere using radiosondes and surface measurements on a mountain
- log data and work with instruments in remote locations
- investigate atmospheric trace gases and aerosols
Our researchers have years of experience in field campaigns across the globe, from Borneo to Cape Verde, using both ground-based and airborne instruments. We have been training students and researchers in field campaign measurements for over twelve years.
You can watch our short video about the atmospheric summer school.
The school culimates with the students planning and executing their own field campaign structured around reaching the highest point on the island - the summit of Goatfell.
Applications for this course are now open.
