May 10-21 2021, Arran Outdoor Centre, Scotland.

We are still hoping to run the Atmospheric Measurement Summer School on Arran in 2021.  This is scheduled to take place May 10-21 2021.  We are not currently accepting bookings, but if you would like to attend please register your interest via the application form and we will contact you once we have a better understanding of the likely situation moving forward.

Experienced researchers will help you to develop the core skills required to excel in practical fieldwork.

With guidance from eminent scientists and dedicated group mentors, you will work in small teams to prepare and deliver daily weather forecasts, profile the atmosphere, operate instruments in remote locations, and investigate atmospheric trace gases and aerosols.

The next Atmospheric Measurement Summer School will take place at the Arran Outdoor Centre in Lamlash from Monday 10th to Friday 21th May 2021. This practical course is designed for PhD and early career scientists who want to gain confidence, experience and in-depth knowledge about atmospheric science fieldwork.

The NCAS Atmospheric Measurement Summer School focuses on the core skills researchers need to achieve excellence in practical fieldwork

Our comprehensive programme will challenge you to:

  • use synoptic charts and other data to give daily weather forecasts
  • profile the atmosphere using radiosondes and surface measurements on a mountain
  • log data and work with instruments in remote locations
  • investigate atmospheric trace gases and aerosols
