The course will take place from May 14-25 2018 at the Arran Outdoor Centre, Lamlash, Isle of Arran.


The school is an intensive, full time programme running from 08:30-20:00 on most days.  The school includes some lectures, but is mostly based around practical atmospheric field measurement activities some of which are carried out in semi-remote locations.

We strongly recommend that you will have attended the NCAS Introduction to Atmospheric Science Course prior to attending the Atmospheric Measurement Summer School.  Students that have not attended this course will be required to complete some pre-course self study before attending.  Students who have attended the Introduction to Atmospheric Science Course will be given priority over those who have not.

What's Included

The course fee includes all tuition, activities, materials, accommodation, subsistence and organised social events.

What's Not Included

Delegates are responsible for arranging and paying for their own transport to and from the Isle of Arran.

Once you have secured a place on the summer school you will need to arrange and pay for your own return travel to Ardrossan Harbour.  Arran is reached by ferry from Ardrossan.  You will be able to buy your ferry ticket at the harbour on the day of travel.  The ferries run in line with the railway schedule and all students should aim to arrive at Ardrossan Harbour in plenty of time to check in for the 15.20 ferry on Monday May 14 2018 from Ardrossan to Brodick.

The ferry is scheduled to arrive in Brodick at 16.15 and a minibus will be sent to collect you and take you to Arran Outdoor Centre.

It is intended that all students will take the 11.05 ferry on Friday 25 May 2018 from Brodick to Ardrossan.

The ferry is scheduled to arrive in Ardrossan Harbour at 12.00 noon for the 12.36 train towards Glasgow.

You should plan your travel arrangements to ensure that you arrive in good time.  All students are expected to attend all aspects of the Atmospheric Field Measurement programme.
