April 2010 - Atmospheric Measurement Summer School 2010

Registrations are now being accepted for the 2010 Atmospheric Measurement Summer School. This is a two week field course aimed at atmospheric science PhD students entering their first or second year of research, it is also possible for a supervisor to secure a place for a first year student in advance of their PhD start date.

 

The course has been designed for:

  1. PhD Students who are researching a specific area of atmospheric science in order to give them a broad overview of the atmospheric system, and/or
  2. PhD Students whose research project involves fieldwork in order to introduce them to principles of atmospheric fieldwork including instrumentation, data analysis and organising fieldwork.

The summer school is held on the Isle of Arran from Tuesday 7th - Sunday 19th September 2010.


Lecture topics include;

•    Synoptic meteorology and weather forecasting

•    Satellite atmospheric observations

•    Atmospheric chemistry and field measurements

Atmospheric aerosols

•    Data analysis and interpretation

•    The how, what, when and where of field measurements

•    Errors and uncertainty in atmospheric measurements

•    Health and safety in the field
