Climate
The NCAS Climate Directorate consists of the following units:
NCAS Climate
NCAS-Climate provides a core programme of fundamental science, technical support and training to address the following key challenges:
- To understand and simulate the highly non-linear dynamics and feedbacks of the global climate system through the development of a modular approach to earth system modelling
- To exploit the revolution in seasonal to interannual prediction as a test bed of climate models and as a vehicle for fostering integrated applications;
- To capitalise on and develop NERC expertise in earth system science; and
- To harness the expected increases in computer power and the opportunities provided by e-science.
Atmospheric Chemistry Modelling Support Unit (ACMSU)
The Atmospheric Chemistry Modelling Support Unit (ACMSU) carry out world-class scientific research on problems related to atmospheric chemistry in NERC core science areas and provide scientific support, state-of-the-art chemistry models and modelling support to the UK NERC community. Our key research and support areas are:
- chemistry-climate interactions,
- oxidising capacity of the troposphere,
- interpretation of satellite data,
- development of global chemistry models, support for field campaigns.
