Cut off date:

The annual NCAS Staff Meeting is our chance to bring all parts of NCAS together to discuss matters of importance to us all. First and foremost it is an opportunity for the various parts of NCAS to discuss their science with the rest of the centre. It is also the opportunity for those who manage NCAS on your behalf to seek your views on likely forthcoming developments and to pass on information.

This year we will be discussing proposed developments to the "NCAS Deal" which have been put together by working groups set up following the 2012 staff meeting. We will also be discussing the possible ways in which NERC's decision to examine the ownership models for its centres (described by Duncan Wingham in his recent communication to all staff) may affect NCAS.

As is usual, we expect all staff to attend unless they have other pressing and inflexible commitments. We are, for example, aware that some staff at FAAM and FGAM will be involved in field campaigns. I look forward to meeting the rest of you in Birmingham.

Stephen Mobbs, NCAS Director.

Where and when?

This year the NCAS Staff Meeting will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Birmingham on Tuesday 16 July and Wednesday 17 July. The meeting will begin with registration from 10.30am on the Tuesday and will finish at 4pm on the Wednesday.

Who will be attending?

  • All NCAS staff (category 1) will be required to attend the Staff Meeting, unless otherwise agreed with your NCAS Director or Head. You will be required to submit a presentation title and abstract.
  • Staff substantially funded by research grants for which an NCAS staff member is the PI or Co-I (category 6) are encouraged to attend. If you do chose to attend, you will be required to submit a presentation title and abstract.
  • All BADC and FAAM staff (categories 2 & 4) will be required to attend, unless otherwise agreed with your NCAS Director or Head. You will not be required to submit an abstract, however we would encourage you to do so.
  • All PIs (category 8) are encouraged to attend – abstract submission is optional, however we would encourage you to do so if possible.

Is there a cost?

No! NCAS centrally will cover the cost of attending the Meeting for all staff. This includes overnight B&B accommodation at the hotel (on the night of Tuesday 16th July), all meals and a conference dinner on the Tuesday evening. We will not cover your travel expenses so these should be claimed locally in the usual way.

How do I register?

It's an online regsitration so please click the 'Register' link at the foot of this page to complete the registration form. You will need to have your presentation title and abstract ready for when you register.

What’s the closing date?

The deadline for registration and abstract submission is midday on Thursday 2 May 2013. The NCAS Science Strategy Board will then decide whether your presentation will be an oral one or a poster. We will be in touch about 6 weeks before the Staff Meeting to let you know.
